At the turn of the 18th century, some of the finest furniture ever built came into existence. That you won't find in your local furniture store. These craftsman of the era produced some of the finest furniture to be found of that day, and even up until the present day. During this 18th century there came about a change in the design & designing of furniture. This brought about Four New designs and they were the.. William & Mary, Queen Anne, Chippendale, Neoclassical

As each one of these designs came about, they came one right after another. They were all "Unique" and very detailed in the craftsmanship. These were exciting times! and as each one of these were created, they seem to improve from period to period...

Take the "William & Mary" period...

They used figured veneers & deep carving and very dramatic and noticeable turnings...This let the craftsman produce some very dramatic pieces of furniture.

Then came the "Queen Anne" period, this is were the people were wanting Refinement & Elegance! There was a growing prosperity in America. The people were looking for a refined style and it was in there reach! This is where they started getting away from a lot of the deep turnings & veneers. And started introducing "Cyma Curve, s- shaped curve" in the furniture such as cabriole legs. Really, they were just refining the William & Mary period by putting more balance into the furniture. and getting away from the very bold look and toning down the furniture a bit..

Next, came "Thomas Chippendale" Chippendale era. This to, is a addition and a refining of the period that came before (Queen Anne) but the Chippendale style took on a little bit different approach. It was more of natural designs, such as flowers, fruit, shells, that was arranged with order and symmetry. This was done in such away, that this was not your standard for symmetry. It brought a whole new style. Thomas Chippendale also incorporated Chinese style in his furniture.

The Fourth period of furniture that came on the scene was the Neoclassical (Federal Style) furniture. This period of furniture style was mainly do to a man named Robert Adams, The federal style furniture was clean & simple. Adams had took things such as cabriole legs and replaced them with the elegance of the slender straight tapered legs. He also made case work pieces to a eye pleasing semi-circular & elliptical shape. The Adams brothers also introduced new Ornamentation to there furniture that was inspired by ancient artifacts.

These were truly four periods of furniture that changed furniture making and the way furniture was build & designed forever. It added class & elegance that has remained even to this day.. To see and experience the furniture that came from the 18th century is truly amazing. The detail & elegance of the construction used to create these Beautiful master pieces...Now, I know that your a true lover of very fine furniture..
